I was talking to the a/c repair guy when i first heard it. It was kind of a “oodle-ooo”. But it was clear as day. Ira had made his first rooster noise. As i stood in the yard talking to the repair man Ira tried again and again to perfect his new ability. My face …

Fedex Brings us Groceries
As a healthcare worker i was no longer welcome in the grocery stores. If i made a stop at the pet store the cashier called for back-up, opened a completely different lane, and got me out of the store as soon as possible before the other customers could become riled up or united. It reached …
Chiggers
The day after mowing and trimming the entire property i noticed my entire belly button was red and swollen. The area around it was crusted with an orange tinted dried liquid. It looked like someone had rubbed me down with iodine in preparation for a medical procedure. I thought, “well that’s a weird reaction to …
No Money for the Porch this Year
With every season change i would usually buy a 1 or 2 dollar decoration from the dollar general down the street and hang it on the front door of the tiny house. With everything that was going on in healthcare and the economy as a whole, i wasn’t getting my full hours anymore. That meant …

The Plants
Fortunately, i dug the hole for the loquat tree back before i got sick. The ground on my property was mostly limestone with a thin layer of clay on top of it. So, digging involved a large metal stick more than it did a shovel. The shovel was just present to lift the broken pieces …
Josie
Around early spring i noticed i was being followed by a jack rabbit wherever i went. She would follow me around the yard as i did my chores. She always stayed just far enough that i couldn’t reach her. 10 to 20 feet. She would sit near me and chew the grass, wriggling her little …
A Trip to Enterprise
Once i had returned to work i knew i needed to go pick up my items at tractor supply. They were holding them for me because i had been on quarantine. I needed to get the chicken coop, a dog kennel, and a dog kennel roof. For that, i needed a truck. I began my …
The Chickens Needed to go Outside
As time went on the little chicks began to shed their fuzzy fluff and pick at these tubes that appeared with their beaks. As they picked at the hard plastic-like tubes, they unfurled into little feathers. They were forever picking at themselves with their beaks and each time i peered into the stock tank they …
