In the house the redbud tree, crape myrtle, and blackberry bush began to wake up from their slumber. In their minds, winter hibernation was over. Unfortunately, most of my fruit trees in the ground followed suit. Winter was not over by a long shot. In one week it would be 13 degrees and everything that had put all their energy into making an abundance of tiny little leaves would suffer and die back to the very trunk of the tree. I am still trying to coax them back to life but they’ve used up all their energy and have very few signs of new life for this spring. If only they could have held out 2 more weeks.

It is so hard when plants break dormancy to soon.
