Unfortunately, after 4 years without substantial rain the river has gone dry. I did not know it could do that. I have never seen the bottom of the river bed. It turns out the rocks are white. I guessed they would be algae covered but i was wrong. They are white limestone rocks. They are dusty and blinding in the sun. Well, now that the river near us is dry, (there are shallow pools of standing water in some areas…they just no longer connect or flow…but the area i visit is dry) ive begun seeing some very strange looking toads popping up in the yard. I took a picture of one to show it to my coworkers and see if they knew what it was. It turns out, they are not toads but frogs. Unfortunately, poisonous frogs. They are called the pickerel frog and they happen to be the only poisonous frog in north america. They seem to be everywhere there is any bit of moisture: i.e. around my house and plants. Yeah, so now the yard is overrun with poisonous frogs, and its just about to be cool enough to leave the dogs outside while i go to work again. I need cashew to eat a poisonous frog like i need a hole in my head. Sigh. What can you do? They’re already here.
