When working in the hill country there is always the chance that your patients’ family members will bring in produce and set a box of it on the table for people to take one each. So far this year theres been peaches and plums brought in. However, in past years people have brought squash, tomatoes, and pecans…all sorts of things.
One of my patients’ sons brought in these beautiful tiny dark red plums. I stashed one in the car for lunch break and when i washed and bit into it the entire thing popped and disintegrated into liquid sugar on my tongue. It was a subtle stone-fruit sweetness, not like dates or figs. Not overwhelming, but so perfect.

Plums are my favorite fruit. Peaches are a close second. 🙂
Pears take the cake for me but brown turkey figs are a close second. Then like 5 other fruits are a tie for 3rd with conditions…level of ripeness. Strawberries are no good if not ripe. Strawberries just picked…different story. I think that if you like plums you would have approved of these ones. They were so tiny, more cherry sized than plum sized, but it was such a nice sweetness without any sour, just a genuinely ripe juicy plum, it made up for there only being one bite.
