These cute little grade school kids were bussed in from Harper to give the elders little flower seed cups for May Day in the nursing home in Fredericksburg. We helped them water some of them. The patients were not really able to keep up with it so it fell to the staff. I tried to coordinate who was going to keep track of which seed cups. They were divided into groups and certain people volunteered to water certain groups of seed cups during certain days. It was going good until the weekend came. The weekday staff and the weekend staff dont really overlap much. I didnt know any of them. I decided to organize some people to take the cups home over the weekend to water them and then bring them back. I took one to look after it. I set it on the window unit to get some sun over the weekend. They grew a bit taller and i returned the cup on monday. They lasted for about two weeks and then they were all dead. It was a noble undertaking, trying to keep them alive long enough to put them in the zinnia garden outside. A couple people switched schedules and there was a lack of communication and the sprouts did not get watered and pretty quickly died. Seeds are probably great for assisted living or the retirement home but im guessing they had better bring the full grown flowers for the nursing home, or just one cup instead of 50 which will be easier for nursing to collectively adopt and care for.
