Los Dos Amigos

I had to call 911 today. I pulled up to the intersection of i10 and highway 87 in comfort to find debris that had once been a car all over the road. There were people standing in the middle of the intersection, 5 or 6 cars involved, and a yellow jeep on its side at the underpass. No cops or ems on scene. Glass and metal everywhere. The 911 operator told me those involved had already called and help was on the way. The operator asked me to leave so i didnt clog up the scene as the police were almost to them. I got on i10 and went one exit to turn around and head back to comfort as the scene was spread all over the intersection and there was no way through. Seeing the cars smashed up like toys and the jeep on its side and then just driving away instead of stopping to help was kind of strange. Where was triage? Where was damage control? Apparently not my job. It felt wrong to do but when the 911 people talk to you they’re kind of stern. I think on some level im worried you get arrested if you dont follow their instruction which sounds ridiculous but its where my brain goes. I couldnt stop thinking about the people and cooking was not on my radar. I stopped to get a veggie burger at the comfort grocery market. They no longer carried them. Not enough demand. I thought to myself: theres one restaurant here i can get a salad at: high street cafe has a greek salad, or i can get a shrimp salad at the restaurant in center point “los dos amigos”. Id never had one but id seen my neighbor eat one before and it looked and smelled fantastic with grilled shrimp, caramelized onions, creamy avocado, fresh tomato, and loads of fluffy lettuce. The problem was, it was only available friday through sunday and it was priced at $16 as things are in a very small town where people dont go out to eat often. After the accident i thought, life is short. Get the salad. So i did. Let me just say, Los Dos Amigos, shrimp lovers salad? Perfecto! Delicious. Would i get it again? On special occasions. But ******* lip smacking good. On your knees praying in gratitude kind of good. Those grilled shrimp are fire my friends. Im actually really surprised a mexican restaurant had food done in oil rather than lard and stuff i could eat with all my allergies and im proud that in a small town in the middle of nowhere they are making food that can rival the cleanest flavorful restaurants in austin. They’re located in what used to be the laundromat and all of their dishes look and smell amazing. They’re really friendly too. All the dishes come with their freshly made corn chips which also smell amazing but im really allergic to corn so had to pass on those.

  1. Food tastes better in certain circumstances. So glad you could find something satisfying! It is hard to walk away.
