When things are wrong in the world and i am powerless to set them right i have 2 choices on what to do with myself instead: hatchet + dead trees or shovel + rock breaking stick. I needed to plant a few trees anyway so i chose to dig a hole.

I dug a hole.

I planted a pomegranate tree.

Hammered in the last rebar.

Caged and watered it. Now there are 2 pomegranate trees.

I’m hoping to get a second pomegranate seed sprouted …. Pomegranates are great trees. 🙂
It seems to be one of the only trees that is willing to grow in the rocky soil and can thrive in this environment. It seems both drought tolerant and survives the winters well. Im in that stage of acceptance that the fig, loquat, mandarin, and apple trees i was trying to grow do not like sulfur water and rock dirt. However, pomegranates and mulberries do. Im trying to put more native things in and so an additional mulberry is next on my list. Then i have to see about the pear situation…i have two varieties that bloom 2 weeks apart from each other, so i need an additional pear tree compatible with each. I need to dig a lot more holes. Also theres a redbud and crape myrtle on the porch that need planting. I cant decide where to put them. I dont want their roots going under structures but i do want them where i can see them but i cant put them near the septic tank or sheds and if i put them where i want to put them im going to have to pull up a lot of full grown tree roots, so im procrastinating, waiting for the answer to present itself.
